About Us

Located in the downtown arts district of Winston Salem, Paz offers a variety of classes within the studio and out in the community. Our intention as a yoga studio is to open up our space for those who want to find a sense of peace in their daily lives. Students may choose to take classes as a form of exercise, healing, and stress relief, or they may dive in to the study of yoga as a life transformative process. Our classes are asana (posture) based, but you can also experience pranayama (breath techniques), meditation, and the study of yogic philosophy in them. We have classes for all bodies at all experience levels, safe and free of judgement for anyone that steps into the studio.

Michele is the founder and Owner of PAZ Studios. In 2015, she completed and received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification with Triad Yoga Institute in Greensboro North Carolina. Michele attended High Point University where she graduated with a BS degree in Interior Design. She is a Colorado native and loves the outdoors, and glamping when she’s not working. She is a wife and a mother of two-sons and two-French Bulldogs, Elláh and Enzö. Michele teaches exhale flow at Paz Studios, where she focuses on alignment and ease in asana, making this class just the right balance of challenging and accessibility.

Kate is an E-RYT500 teacher and has been teaching yoga in Winston Salem since 2014. She got her first certification during a 3-week intensive training in Nosara, Costa Rica, and in August 2016, she continued her teaching in Koh Samui, Thailand getting her RYT-500. Her style of teaching includes vinyasa, power vinyasa, yin/restorative, AcroYoga, and children's yoga. Her classes are always evolving, but deliver the message to her students that strength and flexibility must be built safely over time. No matter what style of yoga, you'll learn more about your body and how to keep it working properly for years to come. She is also a local elementary school teacher at the Downtown School across the street from PAZ!

PsyD, RYT 1000, IAYT teaches yoga & mind-body health & awareness workshops for corporations & at private clients. Karen enjoys working with individuals of all ages, including those who have mental health issues, physical injuries, joint pain, disabilities, neurological & autoimmune diseases. Using techniques from numerous traditions of yoga, and her studies in physical therapy & KMI, Karen engenders healing in all aspects of her classes. Through intentional movement, clients are able to quiet the mind & often discover a deeper knowledge of the self as well as their interconnectedness with the world. Karen finds the practice of yoga to be profound in transforming the body & the Spirit.

Hallie, a Winston Salem native, was first introduced to Yoga 15 years ago in the very same building that Paz Studios lies today. Hallie currently teaches at the UNCG Kaplan Center for Wellness. She received her RYT-200 from Triad Yoga Institute in Greensboro. Hallie believes the study of yoga is life changing and her practice is ever-evolving. She holds a passion for studying the traditional aspects of yoga and using the practice as a medicine. Hallie is an aspiring Art Teacher and hopes to be able to bring yoga and mindfulness teachings to schools in the future. In her free time, she enjoys painting, ceramics, and studying West African music and dance. She also makes natural skin care products that we are obsessed with.

Mallory has been exploring and practicing yoga since 2013. Having sustained a fairly active lifestyle, she found the same endorphin high she was used to with running, but with a sense of calmness at the end of each yoga class. Through yoga, she has found a more balanced means to take care of herself in the hopes that she can continue to provide care and treatment for the populations she serves in the therapy setting. She trained with K10 Yoga and received her RYT-200 certification, and has been changing lives and mindsets ever since.

Lionel comes to us with more than 500 hours worth of dance experience. Specializing in Latin dance techniques, he creates a fun environment for dancers (and aspiring dancers) of all levels to learn the art of Salsa dancing and much more! Lionel has always had a passion for dance, and is great at breaking down sequences into easy to understand lessons, so he will have you looking like a pro in no time. Lionel is easy going, funny, and will make you want to get out of your seat and move. Need more inspiration? Check him out on YouTube as Lionel Villalta.

Asia Parker is an RYT-200 and a reiki master with basic training in meditation and Ayurveda. She was drawn to yoga through the physical aspects of the practice and has since delved much deeper into the spiritual sides. Asia graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in History with a minor in Middle-east and South-Asian studies. In her practice she strives to find balance between the yin and yang, with a focus on mindfulness and always a bit of fun.

Marlena Del Hierro, LCAS-A, LPC-A is an RYT-200 yoga instructor, practicing counselor, and a level II Reiki practitioner. Marlena’s yoga practice began in 2011 as a desire to exercise and later she found through a consistent practice that yoga offered other benefits to the mind and spirit as well as the body. Marlena has practiced different kinds of yoga in a variety of settings and locations, from power classes at an army base (the exercise phase), living and working at a yoga meditation retreat center on the Big Island in Hawaii and doing an intensive 100-hour module of meditative hatha yoga on the pacific coast in Mexico. Marlena strives to bring creativity, fun, and bliss to the yoga experience.

Amret Hawfield is a native of Winston-Salem. After completing her medical training in New York, she returned home to join the Wake Forest School of Medicine faculty.

Amret’s lifelong passion for the outdoors, adventure and academics led her to consistent yoga practice in 2010. She recently took the step of completing a 200 hour teacher training program, graduating in November of 2019, and is excited to share this practice with the local community. In Amret’s classes you will experience a strong and scalable asana practice, breath work and mindful meditation.

Outside of the studio, Amret is a nephrologist and treats people with chronic kidney diseases. In her free time you can find her in the NC mountains spending time with her husband, two daughters and dog, Ronnie.
